I think most of us expected Cody Rhodes to defeat Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship last Friday night, but it still got quite a negative reaction online. The outrage against Cody’s current push in some corners is palpable. We’ve even got people out here buying YouTube dislikes, which is another sign that the world’s going to Hell in a handbasket. (There’s a lot of signs these days, believe me.)

The original pitch was reported to be Cody vs. Drew in a Hell in a Cell match, which probably would have ended their long-running feud. Disappointing ticket sales so far is the main factor causing WWE to pivot to other plans that they hope will boost interest. We have seen Cody vs. Drew a bunch lately, while we haven’t seen Cody take on Randy Orton since Cody’s first run with WWE. It remains to be seen whether Cody vs. Randy leads to a boost in ticket sales, but I don’t think it’s the worst idea in the world. The main argument against it comes from longtime sentiment that WrestleMania should be the end of a feud & not the beginning. I used to feel that way twenty years ago, but a lot’s changed in twenty years. WrestleMania should end some issues, but there’s nothing wrong with starting some stuff there too.

Plus, if you wanted to turn Cody for some reason, doing at WM with Randy would probably be as good a chance there ever will be to do it and get a huge reaction.

I’m not a technology expert, which is unfortunate since that’s where the money is, but MyAEW sounds like a pretty good deal for international fans. Anything that makes content easier to view for a larger audience is a good thing in my book, and this should help AEW gain new fans across the globe. Somebody let me know when I can get that FAST channel on my Roku box.

Given the money involved, I wouldn’t expect WWE to move that show as long as there’s a Saudi Arabia to hold it in. What I would expect is for TKO to hold some big events in America during SaudiMania, maybe a nice little NXT/AAA double header or something to keep the fans here interested. There won’t be a better time for an enterprising promoter to go heads up against WrestleMania, and if I was Tony Khan I’d already be making plans surrounding a big event on the same day(s). You’re not going to get a better opportunity to pull some eyeballs from the WWE fanbase.
