Here’s what matters today in wrestling 👇

Given all the speculation last week surrounding AEW’s future with media rights, they needed to have a big weekend in New York to shift the narrative. It was certainly a big weekend in New York, as AEW got their fourth biggest crowd for a PPV event in their history. The card was warmly received by fans & critics as delivering plenty of bang for the buck. There were big happenings, as Adam Copeland & Christian Cage won the Tag Team Championship, Konosuke Takeshita won the International Championship, and MJF regained the World Championship from Darby Allin. I thought the result of the main event was fairly obvious going in (MJF doesn’t have any bald movie roles coming up that I know of), but it’s a credit to AEW & the men involved that so many fans seemed surprised or disappointed to a degree. Mick Foley even debuted with the company, and we all know that you can’t have been a legitimate wrestling company over the past thirty years unless Mick Foley’s been a part of your show at some point.

Many folks out there accuse wrestling writers like me of being biased in favor of AEW or other companies against WWE. I wouldn’t say I’m biased in favor of AEW, but I am biased in favor of having more than one wrestling company to watch and write about. WWE will always be there for me to either love or hate based off what they’re presenting. They give me a lot of material, but I need more. Wrestling needs more successful companies for wrestlers to work at. I’ll call AEW out when they do dumb stuff, but I’d like them not to do dumb stuff so they’ll be around for a while. Maybe that’s bias but go ahead and find me a journalistic outlet that isn’t biased these days. At least pro wrestling bias doesn’t sink the economy.

Update On FTR's AEW Contract Status, WWE Interest

WWE is apparently on the hunt for tag teams to fill some spots on the card. (Our next story is related to this as well.) There’s been a lot of talk over the past week about Enzo & Cass potentially coming back to WWE, which might work since Cass is in great shape & enough time has gone by for people to forget about whatever happened with Enzo that I don’t think actually happened anyway. If nothing else Enzo can talk & sell some merch. With FTR’s option year coming up in 2027, it’s no surprise that WWE is going to show some interest. It’s not so much that the Revival means a whole lot to them, but taking FTR from AEW definitely serves their interests. FTR has said in the past that their run will end when their contract does, but we’ve all heard that from wrestlers before.

It seems like we can’t go more than a month without somebody in The Vision getting injured, and now it’s Logan Paul’s turn. He tore his triceps during his match on Saturday’s Night Main Event and is expected to be out for months. Logan will be a big loss to the group due to his status as a heat magnet…people want to cheer Bron Breakker, they could go either way with Austin Theory, but they love to hate Logan Paul. The guy doesn’t even need Paul Heyman on his side to get the boos. The Tag Team Championship will stay with the Vision, which makes sense because I’m not sure how many teams they would have for a tournament right now. It looks like WWE will use the opportunity to push Theory, which is something they’ve tried before with limited results. Maybe it’ll work this time around?
